  • EquipmentRacquet

Setup: Stand at the center mark of the baseline in the ready position.

  1. Split step.
  2. Shuffle or crossover to the forehand side and shadow a full forehand.
  3. Recover to the center with shuffles and split step again.
  4. Repeat to the backhand. Do 3 sets of 10.

Coaching cues

  • Split, turn, swing, recover
  • Small adjustment steps before the swing
  • Hold every finish for one beat

Common mistakes

  • Rushing through the pattern
  • Skipping the recovery

Progression: Add forward movement for short balls and volleys and backward movement for overheads.

Coach's note: Shadowing is free repetition. A few minutes a day sharpens movement and stroke shape.
