  • Players2
  • Time12 min
  • EquipmentBasket of balls

Setup: Player starts a few feet from the net. Feeder at the opposite baseline hits deep, high lobs.

  1. Feeder lobs deep toward the player's service line.
  2. Player turns and moves back with crossover steps.
  3. Player pushes off the right (back) foot, rotates in the air, and makes contact.
  4. Player lands on the left foot, then recovers forward.

Coaching cues

  • Turn early and get behind the ball
  • Explode up off the back foot
  • Legs switch in the air, land balanced

Common mistakes

  • Jumping before getting behind the ball
  • Leaning back instead of reaching up

Progression: Feeder alternates short and deep lobs; player must choose whether to jump.

Coach's note: Use this only once the standing overhead is solid. The landing should be controlled and balanced.
