Train the crossover step to reach wide balls and recover efficiently.

  • Players2
  • Time12 min
  • EquipmentBasket of balls, 2 cones

Setup: Feeder at the net with a basket. Player at the center mark. Place a cone 2 feet to either side of the center mark as the recovery zone.

  1. Feeder hits a ball wide to the forehand.
  2. Player turns, crosses over and hits crosscourt.
  3. Player pushes off the outside leg, crosses over once and shuffles back to the cones.
  4. Split step in the zone. Repeat 10 times on each side.

Coaching cues

  • Crossover first for distance
  • Push off the outside leg to recover
  • Split as the feeder hits

Common mistakes

  • Using only small shuffles to chase a wide ball
  • Watching the shot before recovering

Progression: Feed randomly to either side so the player can't anticipate.

Coach's note: Efficient recovery is what lets you keep winning long rallies.
