Develop a consistent toss.

  • Equipment3-5 balls, racquet laid on the ground

Setup: Stand in the serving stance. Lay the racquet on the ground in front of your front foot with the head pointing forward.

  1. Toss with a straight arm.
  2. Let the ball fall without hitting it.
  3. Check whether it lands on the strings.
  4. Repeat 20 times.

Coaching cues

  • Lift from the shoulder
  • Release around head height
  • Hold the arm up after release

Common mistakes

  • Flicking the wrist
  • Bending the elbow

Progression: Toss and swing in slow motion, letting the ball drop afterward.

Coach's note: A consistent toss solves many serve problems.
