Isolate the upper-body throwing motion and feel pronation.

Setup: Kneel on the right knee (for right-handers) at the service line.

  1. Hold a continental grip.
  2. Toss slightly in front.
  3. Swing up and through, feeling the forearm rotate.
  4. Aim for the opposite service box.

Coaching cues

  • Reach up to the ball
  • Palm faces out after contact
  • Relaxed arm

Common mistakes

  • Using a forehand grip
  • Pushing instead of throwing

Progression: Stand at the service line, then move back to the baseline.

Coach's note: Removing the legs forces the arm to work efficiently. Add the legs back once the arm understands the motion.
